Sufficient and necessary criteria, explained in everyday language

If something is happening in India ...


... then people will be there to watch.


However, the reverse is not true - if people stand there and watch it does not imply that anything has happened.

The former is a sufficient criterion for the latter, however, the latter only is a necessary criterion for the former.
